BRIDGEPORT — Mayor Joe Ganim’s administration intends to use a $1.8 million federal grant that has stirred some controversy among immigrant advocates to hire a fourth new class of police officers. But the exact details are still being worked out in City Hall. And the clock is ticking. A list of pre-screened candidates from the last recruitment effort who are ready for the academy expires Mar. 1. “The money’s for hiring new police officers,” Av Harris, a mayoral aide and police spokesman, when asked Friday to confirm a fourth class. “We’re trying to get up to that 100 officer mark.
