SHELTON — Police are searching for an early-2000 model Jeep Liberty they said they believe is responsible for leaving the scene of an accident that brought down a transformer filled with hazardous waste.
Around 6 a.m. Nov. 5, officers responded to Poplar Drive and Suren Lane on the report of a motor vehicle that fled the scene of an accident. Police said the responding officers noticed a telephone pole with a transformer down across Poplar Drive. They also noticed that a fire hydrant appeared to have been hit.
During their investigation — which is ongoing — police determined the damage was caused by a 2002 or 2003 Jeep Liberty.
