Driving 100 mph, man leads cops on 17-mile chase on Route 8

A man who was wanted in a domestic dispute led police on a 17-mile chase on Route 8 with speeds of more than 100 mph, state troopers said. Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, Waterbury police alerted local and state police to be on the lookout for a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck believed to be operated by Jimmy Bedard, 37. Bedard was wanted in connection with a domestic dispute that occured earlier in Waterbury. Troopers from the Troop A barracks in Southbury located Bedard’s pickup truck traveling northbound on Route 8 near Exit 30 in Waterbury. “The operator immediately sped up to speeds over 100 mph engaging police in pursuit,” state police said in a report.
