Off-duty trooper sees damaged vehicle; stops hit and run DUI driver

MILFORD - An off-duty State Police trooper stopped a vehicle that fled the scene of a motor-vehicle accident Friday night on Anderson Avenue. Police say the driver was stopped farther down the road because the trooper noticed “the extensive damage” to the vehicle. The driver, identified as Wayne Kelly, 54, of Anderson Avenue, was later found to have an elevated blood alcohol content. Kelly was charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibilty, failure to drive right and failure to renew his license. The accident happened at 5:40 p.m. Friday on Anderson Avenue and Quirk Road. Kelly has a Milford Superior Court date of Nov. 2.
