The federal government was shut down for about five hours this morning, but the government is currently open after the House voted 240-186 before 6 a.m. on a temporary spending plan. In the end, 73 House Democrats eventually voted in favor of the extension. Sixty-seven Republican voted against the bill and 167 voted for it. It funds the government through March 23, includes $400 billion in new spending, and it lifts the debt ceiling.
